Hi

I wonder if you can help with a question we have had on our helpline?

Have any of you had your hair permed while on Methotrexate?
Did it work well? Did you get any side effects?

We would be grateful for any comments you may have.

Thank you

I had my hair permed a couple of times when I was on Methotrexate...

First time I just had a body perm which wasn't a tight perm, just enough to give a bit of curl and body. I had no problems with this...

When I came to my second perm, I wanted a much tighter perm which meant more perm solution.. I found with mine that it dried my hair quite a bit but was soon sorted with some conditioning treatments. With Methotrexate I'd lose a small handful of hair but nothing that would have a huge impact, plus I have a thick head of hair...

Hairdressers these days are much more informed on drug treatments and I think if you were to explain what you were on (after all it is a form of chemo) then the hairdresser can look at treatments that will keep hair in good condition...

I found L'oreal Kerastase mask treatment wonderful for my hair but I'm sure there are lots of other products around...

Hope that helps xx
